Eastney Naturists

Campaigning to Save the Beach

10 July 2006
Eastney Naturists’ Picnic on the Beach

If you go down to Eastney Beach on July 30 you’re in for a big surprise… because that’s the day the Eastney Naturists have their picnic.

The newly formed Eastney Naturists campaign group, in association with national organisation British-Naturism, is to hold a get-together day at Eastney Naturist beach on Sunday 30th July 2006 and people are encouraged to bring along their own picnics and join us for the day.

Mike Houlsby, who is one of the organisers, said:

“The day will be a great opportunity for us to spread the word about our ongoing campaign to save Eastney Beach for naturist use.  We want to make sure that other users of the beach are aware that the beach may be lost to us for the sake of profit and yet more property development in an already overcrowded and over-developed city, pushing us out of one of the very few quiet corners left in Portsmouth.”

“Oh, and we aim to have a great day on our beach as well!”

The day isn’t just about campaigns and picnics though, the Portsmouth Lifeguards will be putting on a demonstration rescue at sea / man overboard exercise.  This exciting show will take place just off the naturist beach and will come with a running commentary from the lifeguards.  The action kicks off at around 3:00pm (depending on the weather and whether they’ve been called out for real, of course) and is expected to take 20 – 30 minutes.

Max Denison, from Eastney Naturists, added “This should be quite a show and certainly suitable to close out our first Beach Day.  We’ll be coming round with a collection bucket and we’d like to ask everyone to put their hands in their pockets for this worthwhile charity. Well, those with pockets that is!  Naturists will need to find their change elsewhere!”

Mike Houlsby added:

“This get-together day is part of a series of beach days, co-ordinated by British Naturism, around the country aimed at providing a great opportunity for people who have thought about trying naturism, to give it a go.  They’ll be in friendly company if they come along and join us.  Don’t worry – there won’t be any pressure on anyone to get their kit off.”

Officials from British Naturism will be on hand to provide information about the benefits of naturism and about naturism in the UK and abroad.
